Must-Have Plumbing Accessories

Your RVs water and sewage systems are some of its most important components. Therefore, it is important that you have the right accessories to both protect these systems and ensure you can properly use them.

One of the most important accessories you should own is a water pressure regulator. This simple device connects directly to your water source and helps to protect your plumbing system, pipes and appliances from being damaged by excess water pressure. The regulator reduces the water pressure coming into your camper and ensures that it stays at a safe level of 40 to 50 psi. This is important as municipal water systems and water sources at many campgrounds is often at a much higher pressure, and this high pressure can easily damage your RV’s pipes and cause them to break or leak.

Every RV should also have a dedicated water hose for filling up your fresh water holding tank or connecting directly to a water source. When choosing a water hose, make sure that you purchase one that is specifically designed for drinking water. In addition, you also need a sewer hose to allow you to empty your black and gray water tanks. This is one area where you definitely shouldn’t skimp on a cheaper hose, as the last thing you’ll want is for it to break or fail while you’re emptying your tanks.

Wheel Chocks and Leveling Equipment

Wheel chocks are another essential piece of equipment, which work to block your tires to prevent the vehicle from rolling or moving once it is parked. You should make sure that you use the chocks every time the RV is parked, whether it is sitting in your driveway or at a campsite.

If your camper doesn’t have a self-leveling system, you will also need to invest RV levelers. Parking on uneven ground puts extra stress on the frame, which can lead to damage and also make it so that the doors, windows and slide-outs won’t work properly. These problems can easily be avoided by using RV levelers. In addition, you’ll also need a bubble level to allow you to check that the vehicle is properly leveled.

Accessories to Help Protect Against Damage

Surge protectors and vent covers are other things you should invest in to help protect your RV from damage. A surge protector is vital for preventing electrical surges from damaging your electrical components whenever your RV is connected to a power source. Air vent covers are also a great help by ensuring your RV’s vent system can still work properly even when it’s raining.

If your RV has a slide-out, you might also consider having a slide topper installed. These devices act like an awning that extends as you open the slide-out to keep it covered. This is useful for preventing damage to the top of the slide-out and providing additional protection against leaks.

All of these accessories are definitely something every RV owner needs to have. Nonetheless, this list is really just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to useful RV accessories.
